Biketopia
Biketopia is Bike East Bay’s annual celebration of each year’s work and accomplishments towards a bicycle-friendly East Bay. Part auction, part party, and part fundraiser the event aims to raise funds to support Bike East Bay’s advocacy work for the next year while celebrating the former.
I’ve been fortunate to have been brought on to create the look and feel of the event and create the collateral for a few years running.
Biketopia’s theme is always “fun, bikey, playful” with an emphasis on cheery bright colors.
Project assets included social banners, web banners, postcards, palm cards, print posters, and a handful of ads for local publications.
Above and below are some of the designs for Biketopia 2020. The elements were hand drawn by me and then scanned, vectored, and digitally altered to look like cut craft paper.
For 2021 Bike East Bay continued the bright color palette and I created another set of bike and party related illustrations to leverage throughout all of the deliverables.
In 2022 Biketopia turned 50. It’s wild that the party started in the 70’s and, as a nod to the inaugural era, the party theme this time around was disco/retro.
Pedalfest
Pedalfest is a free annual festival that takes place every Summer in Oakland. Average attendance is an estimated 20,000 people. Because the festival is open to everyone the look and feel needed to be something that attracted bike-lovers and those who don’t have any interest in pedal power.
I was tapped in to create the look and feel for 2020’s event but due to the 2020 novel coronavirus pandemic, the event was canceled and the designs were used for 2021’s event.
Bike East Bay decided on a high-energy limited-color design featuring one of the riders from the BMX exhibition woven into the logotype.
